Transportation Choices

Roads. There have always been too few to handle the traffic of the suburbs. The fact is, there will never be enough roads if cars are the only way to get around.
Smart growth isn't just about building roads that are needed, it is about providing alternatives to using the car in the first place. As energy costs rise and commuter experiences of stalled traffic erode even further, Roseland will provide a much needed opportunity to get out of the car without compromising places to go.
Bicycles will have easy routes to all corners of the community, allowing for more than recreation rides. Expect to see more people shopping and going to work by bike as they recognize the ease of getting out of the fast lane in Roseland.
Roseland's commitment to the environment includes encouraging the use of alternative energy vehicles that operate at a fraction of the cost of automobiles and have no detrimental impact to air quality. Our roads are specifically designed at speeds low enough to permit licensed low speed vehicles. These lower speeds translate not only to alternative vehicles, they also mean safer streets for our children and pedestrians.
Community shuttles will provide chances for residents to conveniently travel to Old Town or North Park without having to drive and park. On-demand shuttle destinations will make leaving the car behind easier than ever.
Hallsboro Station, our own restored rail station district, will provide an important link to a future east-west rail line to Downtown Richmond and the international airport. We look forward to working with the rest of the region on making commuter rail a reality in Richmond, providing yet another vital link to sustainability and long term value for our residents.
Most importantly, we have changed how businesses and homes can exist in close proximity enabling people to live in a truly walkable distance from nearly all of their daily needs. At Roseland, we’ve put the choice of how you travel back in your hands. We think that is the only way to go.
